Media Center

The Meadowbrook Media Center is a busy place during the school day. Our goal is to foster an appreciation of literature, and to teach information literacy skills and digital citizenship to all our students.

Many students stop by the media center during the day for a quick book exchange. Classes also visit the media center regularly for media lessons and story times with our media specialist, Mr. Kennedy. During these library times, students also choose books for recreational reading and research projects.

Media Center Spaces

The Media Center was remodeled at the beginning of 2021, so it looks and feels brand new! Fresh carpet and a new circulation desk were installed, and the bookshelves were rearranged to open up new spaces for cozy reading and collaboration. The classroom area features flexible seating and Apple TV connectivity to a 70" video display. Our story nook boasts floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a charming courtyard.

The Video Studio has a permanent green screen and is used to produce "Good Morning Meadowbrook," a school newscast featuring sixth graders. Episodes are posted Fridays on the Meadowbrook Media YouTube channel. The studio is also available for small group audio or video projects. Additionally, a portable green screen and PadCaster camera are available for use in other areas of the school.

Elementary Ecosystem

We are proud of our 1:1 iPad program at Meadowbrook. Every student is issued an iPad for use at school in order to tap into the vast learning potential of digital technologies.

All classrooms have been installed with a short-throw projector and Apple TV device. This configuration allows teachers and students to project presentations, projects, and relevant digital content, and to alternate between them seamlessly.

Materials Available

Books are our passion, and we want them in the hands of our students! Classes are invited to visit the media center every other week to browse for new titles. Students are also welcome to visit with a pass any time during the school day. A high percentage of our new book purchases are based on student and staff recommendations.

Online resources now include access to all Hennepin County Library audio books and databases (with a HCL library card). Hopkins also provides direct access to encyclopedias and other reference databases, BrainPop, the Electronic Library of Minnesota, and much more. Students and staff can access these digital resources from any device using ClassLink.
